That was me this morning after I dropped Miriam off to school. (no pictures please)
Miriam was so excited! We got her lunch together and her clothes picked out the night before. We got up early, she said it was still night time ;). School is from 7:45-2:05 Bus comes at 7:15!! We got dressed, ate breakfast, read scriptures, brushed teeth, got shoes on, took pictures, and went out the door to the car. Elaine was really sad that she couldn't get dressed and go with Miriam to school. Miriam was a bit nervous but not much, I was more than her.
We got to the school, got out of the van and walked to the front door. We found the Kindergarten helper and she started to escort Miriam to the door. I gave her a hug and a kiss, told her I loved her and she turned around with the lady, and walked through the door, not looking back once! The principle was at the door and said, "she is doing great!". Surprised that she wasn't scared. She did do great!!
Then I picked up Elaine, who was crying and practically ran to the car before I broke down and cried....all the way home!!!!! I waited in the car to see if maybe I could stop before going inside..but...I couldn't, so I went inside and cried on my mom's shoulder for about 5 minutes! I was so sad that she would be gone for so long, I wouldn't be there to shelter her anymore. What if she needed me!!
Well I went about my day just fine and couldn't wait until 2:10 when I could go to the bus stop and get her and see how her day went and her first bus ride! Well...we got there and waited and waited... Finally the bus came and the door opened and this is what we saw...
She had gotten on the bus, very happy and eager to come home. She had a GREAT day!! She loved school. She asked the bus driver, "Do you go to Elsing Green Place?" (our street) and the driver said "No, I go to Elsing Green Way". (her stop is a few blocks away) Well this devastated her and she was afraid she wouldn't get home, so she cried the whole way home!!!! :( My poor baby!!!!!! I just feel so awful for her! We had told her the bus would take her home and I guess she thought that really meant HOME. So for the rest of the day she talked about how she didn't want to ever ride the bus again!!!! We had to have long talks about how the driver knew her now, knew what stop she got off on and knew what we looked like, and wouldn't let her off unless we were there! It took a while for her to go to bed because she was so worried about it!.
She did have a great day though and she loved eating in her cafeteria, and nap 'wasn't so long'.
She even had homework. They had to bring 5 things that represented them or their interests. She brought her lantern (she doesn't like the dark and it keeps it light), her silver cup from GG with both their birth dates on it, her sock monkey, a picture of her family with one on the way!, and a book from Singapore and a Costa Rican post card because she loves to travel. They will share it with the class so they know more about each other.
This morning, she got up and was still realllly nervous about the bus. She kept saying her belly hurt! Carlos walked her, like he always will and the neighbor boy across the street walked with them.
I drove behind the bus today to make sure she did alright and she did! I think coming home today will be just fine. What a big girl, we are so excited for her!

Ok, so when I read this, I cried too. I still almost cry when I see my tiny little man get on the big bus in the morning.
